Before You Arrive

  • If you want to observe wildlife, bring binoculars and consider visiting early in the morning or later in the afternoon when the animals are more active.
  • Interested in photography? Bring your camera to capture the sights and sounds of the Forest, plus a few family memories! Review our outdoor photography tips and consider joining the Photographers Club.

During Your Visit

  • Be sure to check in at the Visitor Services desk to get a map and additional information.
  • While in the forest, keep an eye out for our Rangers. They are always happy to share interesting information about the forest.
  • Acorn Acres is a wonderful place in the forest for families to experience nature through unstructured play including music, art, digging and more.
  • Fontenelle Forest Nature Center has indoor exhibits that you can explore when you need to warm up or cool down.
  • Keep your eyes and ears open...you never know what you might experience. While you might not always see wildlife, you can always find signs of their presence - nests, tracks, rubbings and scat.
  • Become a member. If you enjoy your experience, you can apply the cost of your admission towards an annual membership if purchased on the day of your visit.

Looking For Solitude?

At Fontenelle Forest Nature Center, don't be afraid to venture off the Riverview Boardwalk to explore 18 miles of dirt trails. Each season offers new opportunities for visitors, but mid-summer and winter are generally less crowded than spring and fall.
